Foundation Value Engineering — 21-Storey Building
Independent review of foundation concrete and reinforcement at the client’s request.
The client was not satisfied that the foundation design for a 21-storey building represented good value, and engaged us to review the concrete and reinforcement quantities. The original foundation had been designed to BS 8110; we verified it independently against CSA A23.3, with loads to the NBCC and capacity design principles applied. This confirmed the foundation was over-designed for the actual loads. We re-analysed it and reduced the concrete volume and reinforcement quantities while maintaining full code compliance and the required factors of safety.
